The Gold Hill Historical Society was established January 20, 1986. Today the Gold Hill Historical Society is housed in the Beeman-Martin house at 504 First Avenue in Gold Hill, Oregon.
The Beeman Home was built in 1901 from money generated from the Lucky Bart Mine which was about 6 miles northwest of Gold Hill on Sardine Creek. Although not confirmed, it is believed that the mine production was well over $200,000.00.
By 1900, the mine had been a steady producer for seven years, had a five-stamp mill and a concentrating plant. The stamp mill located in our yard is the one formerly located at the Lucky Bart. The Beeman-Martin house was purchased in 1993 to become the Society's new permanent home. After months of refurbishing, the museum's grand opening took place on January 8, 1994.
Our mission is to collect, document, and preserve the history of the Gold Hill area through oral histories, photographs, artifacts and books.
